If you consider yourself a white-knuckle ride fan and have ridden UK rides such as the Big One at Blackpool and Rita the Queen of Speed at Alton Towers, then for a concentrated roller-coaster experience where you can enjoy more thrilling rides per square mile than anywhere else head for either theme park heaven at Orlando, Florida or a smaller collection of parks at Anaheim in Orange County, California. Orlando offers a host of exciting theme parks; four at Disney World, two at Universal, Sea World and a handful of other exciting venues. The conurbation of Orlando / Kissimmee also offers a cornucopia of other entertainment that can easily keep the average family occupied for an entire two-week holiday without needing to repeat any experience. Over on the west coast in California Disney rules the roost at Anaheim, Orange County offering the original Disneyland and a second park known as California Adventure. Close by is found Knott's Berry Farm - home to some absolute thrillers. Indeed, when it comes to thrilling roller coasters Knott's Berry Farm should certainly not be overlooked by true white knuckle aficionados as it boasts no less than five teeth-gritting, butt-clenching rides of its own; The Boomerang, GhostRider, Montezooma's Revenge, Xclerator and Silver Bullet all offer the adrenaline producing fear that thrill riders simply adore; all contained in one park. The foremost ride at California Adventure is the roller coaster California Screamin' which accelerates from 0 – 55 mph in four seconds from a standing start. The front two seats in the first car certainly prove a hair-raising location and the structure is so high at first drop that it can be seen from the Disneyland hotels . It is the top roller coaster for visitors to the park where another great attraction is The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which although not a coaster still provides all the fearsome thrills! But, if the Orange County rides don't prove thrilling enough just 40 miles north in Hollywood is Universal Studios, which offers pretty spectacular rides of its own, albeit that there are no traditional roller coasters. Meanwhile, over on the east coast of America in Florida the hugely popular Aerosmith rock 'n' roller coaster at MGM Disney is likely to long outlive the band from which it gets its name. Opened in July 1999 passengers ride coaster in cars shaped like stretch limousines, fitted with five speakers per seat that blast out Aerosmith's greatest hits as they accelerate from 0 - 60 mph up a steep incline in a staggering 2.8 seconds. Passengers experience 4.5 gees immediately before going into a loop, as "love in a roller coaster" is blasted out all around them. In the words of the locals – ‘awesome’! So, once you’ve ridden the UK thrillers and are looking for more adrenaline rides with the added benefit of guaranteed sunshine, then head for the USA!
